Rocky Hill Teeth Whitening
Tooth whitening can give you a whiter, more beautiful smile. Dr. Michalski offers Boost whitening in his office, which will leave your teeth looking brighter immediately. You can also choose at-home whitening. It works just as well, but it’s less expensive. Fortunately, teeth whitening is suitable for most patients. While the chemicals that bleach your teeth are strong, they do not harm existing dental bonding and fillings. In addition, whitening is safe enough to be repeated as needed, so you can have a bright, attractive smile your whole life.
How Effective is Tooth Whitening?
Tooth whitening permanently removes stains by oxidizing them. Your teeth absorb stains from:
- Coffee
- Berries
- Red wine
- Cola
- Smoking
These stains are absorbed deeply into the enamel and can’t be removed by whitening toothpastes. Peroxide gel will penetrate deep into the tooth enamel and the dentin to oxidize dark-colored molecules. It is strong enough that it will even whiten the natural pigment of your teeth.
People wonder if tooth whitening is permanent. It is in the sense that the stains that are oxidized away are permanently gone. However, it is possible to re-stain your teeth with any of the substances above. For that reason, it is good to save your whitening trays and then Dr. Michalski can provide you with a touch-up kit every year or two to keep your teeth at their maximum whiteness.
You also should be aware that some cases of tooth discoloration aren’t appropriate for bleaching. If you have dark spots on your teeth, whitening won’t do the job. Your teeth will be whiter, and the spots may be whiter, but they may actually be more prominent. Dr. Michalski can fix dark spots with dental bonding, a lasting treatment. Opalescence Boost Whitening
If you choose Boost whitening, you can have your whiter smile quickly. Unlike other in-office whitening systems, Boost uses a chemical to activate the bleaching gel. This powerful treatment works in two or three 20-minute sessions. Boost is more comfortable than other in-office whitening systems such as Zoom, since there’s no need for a hot light to activate the whitening gel.
To prepare your mouth for Boost, we will place a soft protective material on your gums. We will then precisely apply the activated bleaching gel to each tooth you want whitened. At the end of the appointment, we will carefully suction the bleach off of your teeth and remove the protective material, leaving your teeth a brighter white.
Take-Home Teeth Whitening
Whitening your teeth at home takes longer than Boost, but it’s less expensive and reaches the same end result. When you come in for your appointment, Dr. Michalski will talk to you about your whitening needs. There are a couple of whitening options. One option is used at night, the other during the day. Both are equally effective. Each of them takes a couple of weeks to achieve significant results. But you can continue to whiten as long as you want, to reach maximum whiteness.
To make sure the whitening gel completely covers your teeth, Dr. Michalski will take impressions of your mouth. Then he’ll create custom trays that fit snugly over your teeth. Dr. Michalski will give you the trays and tubes of whitening gel to use at home. This gel is considerably more powerful than what you’ll find in at-home kits you can buy over the counter.
Advantages of Professional Tooth Whitening
Bleaching gels and other products you can buy at the drugstore just aren’t as effective as what Dr. Michalski uses to whiten teeth. Over-the-counter bleaching gel comes in weaker concentrations than professional gel. In addition, products like whitening toothpaste don’t stay on the teeth very long—just a few minutes while you brush. So there is no way they can penetrate into the tooth to remove embedded stains.
